North Shore Private Hospital

North Shore Private Hospital (NSPH) is owned by Ramsay Health Care, Australia’s leading private hospital operator. The hospital provides acute medical and surgical services and is a teaching hospital of the University of Sydney. The hospital’s specialties include intensive care, coronary care, cardiac surgery, cardiology, cardiac catheterisation, orthopaedics, obstetrics, neurosurgery, day surgery, oncology and general surgery. Comprehensive diagnostic facilities and medical consulting suites are also located on site.

North Shore Private Hospital was constructed in 1997 and will soon undergo a major redevelopment which will see the hospital grow by 90 beds and will include the development of further operating theatres and specialist consulting suites.

The North Shore team of doctors and nurses is dedicated to providing the highest standard of care to patients. All departments are staffed by experienced and skilled health care professionals, who are familiar with the latest developments and research in their respective fields.

The Hospital is fully accredited by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS), a national accreditation body which ensures that hospitals provide the highest standards of service. Patient health, safety and comfort are the hospital’s main concerns and North Shore Private Hospital continually monitors and evaluates its performance to achieve this outcome.

REDEVELOPMENT

A multimillion dollar redevelopment and expansion of North Shore Private Hospital, which will see the hospital grow to a major 248 bed facility, has started construction.

A multilevel accommodation wing containing a further 59 private rooms, all with ensuites forms the centerpiece of the redevelopment but the hospital will also add five state-of-the-art operating theatres and two birthing suites to its existing infrastructure.

The expansion of North Shore Private will also incorporate an additional 150 carparks which are much needed on the busy campus as well as 800sqm of consulting suites for doctors.

North Shore Private Chief Executive Officer Greg Brown said this would be the most significant development at the hospital since it opened in 1998.

“As part of this redevelopment, we will significantly expand and improve our maternity facilities with new accommodation and two new birthing suites,” Mr Brown said.

“This is a very exciting announcement for North Shore Private Hospital.  The new development will assist the hospital to meet the growing demand for private hospital services in Sydney’s north shore.”

Since its opening 11 years ago, North Shore has achieved some major milestones including 22,000 births and 170,000 operations.

In recent years, the hospital has introduced and become a leader in areas such as Bariatric (weight loss) surgery, complex spinal surgery and deep brain stimulation for Parkinson’s disease.  The Hospital has also become well recognized for cardiothoracic surgery, interventional cardiology, major general and upper gastrointestinal surgery, laparoscopic, urology and gynaecological surgery, vascular and plastic surgery, and complex orthopaedic surgery including joints, foot and ankle, shoulder and hand surgery.

North Shore Private Hospital is owned and operated by Ramsay Health Care, Australia’s largest and most respected operator of private hospitals.  The hospital is located in St Leonards, on the campus of the public facility – the Royal North Shore Hospital – and serves the community in the lower north shore of Sydney.

Mr Brown said: “Our staff and doctors are looking forward to being able to expand the services we provide with this new development.”

He said the development would be completed by December 2010 and everything possible was being done to minimise disruption during this period.
